Our major theme is
'the way forward', as primary care respiratory medicine moves into the 21st century with growing international cooperation and knowledge sharing. The 2004 conference aims to facilitate 'cross-fertilisation' by promoting a lively exchange of ideas and experience from around the world and from a wide range of areas within respiratory care.
The conference will showcase research, new guidelines in respiratory disease, best practice interventions and include clinical and scientific issues presented in an atmosphere of friendliness and collaboration.
In addition to the keynote plenaries and satellite symposia, the conference program has three streams –
people and policy, clinical and practical.
For more detail, see the final program on this site.
-
A broad range of respiratory diseases will be covered, including asthma, allergy, rhinitis, cough and breathlessness, COPD, CAP, TB, and lung cancer.
-
The International Primary Care Airways Guidelines (IPAG) on asthma, rhinitis and COPD will be launched at the conference. These distill the GOLD, GINA and ARIA guidelines for the general practitioner.
-
Behavioural and lifestyle issues for patients will be discussed, and there will be a special session on behavioural issues in asthma, presented by the Australian Co-operative Research Centre for Asthma
(CRC).
-
There will be presentations on Information
Technology (IT) in primary care, on telemedicine, on rural models of care and on clinical care in the Pacific Rim.
-
New medications, smoking cessation, spirometry and other practical issues will be addressed.
